Born Affectionate: Keyee Lam Solo Exhibition
Keyee Lam: An artist with a truly unusual and remarkable life journey. As a woman of many talents, Keyee once pursued interests in film production, fashion, writing, and environmental conservation. Yet, it was a transformative adventure as a translator on the plateau of Tibet with a renowned National Geographic explorer that inspired her to return to her first love: ART.
Keyee was trained as a journalist and fashion designer, having earned top honors at the Parsons School of Design and receiving a grant award at her graduation show. However, at heart, she was always an artist. Her experiences and passions - including family, love, beauty, sorrow, hope, desire, endurance, Buddhism, and Tai-chi - were woven into her magnificent creations.
Her art is more than just beautiful, it also carries meaningful messages and thought-provoking philosophy. The "She is Waiting" series depicts the strength and desire of a woman, while the "Skin Series" highlights the value of life within an empty body. The "Taichi" series showcases the coexistence of softness and hardness and the wisdom of life. Keyee was even commissioned to design a bull sculpture for the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong as a souvenir for new listed companies from 2011-2021.
In the last few years of her life, Keyee created "Crevice of Time," a voice of the ups and downs of life, and "Sign of Life," a whisper of hope to live longer and care for her family. Her final masterpiece, "Stand by You," was created as a tribute to her husband after accepting that her time on earth was coming to an end.
Sadly, Keyee passed away in 2015, but her life's work continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many. Michelle was honored to curate Keyee's final solo exhibition, "Born Affectionate," preserving her incredible legacy for generations to come.
